The convoluted plot in Group B of the women’s
World T20 offers an array of possibilities about which two teams can make the cut for the semifinals.
India, with two points from three matches, is also caught in the net of probabilities. It has to beat the West Indies in its last group outing at the PCA Stadium here on Sunday and wish England the very best against Pakistan. The English women’s victory will be essential for the host’s progress.
India, which defeated Bangladesh but lost to Pakistan and England narrowly, will hope to put on a healthy total on the board. “There will be loads of runs. Surely, the pitch won’t play as slow as the one in Dharamshala, so we are looking forward to a good match,” said India captain Mithali Raj on Saturday. “We have to again perform as a unit. We need to improve on things which we haven’t done in the last two matches — batting, bowling and fielding in crunch situations.”
West Indies, which recorded wins against Pakistan and Bangladesh before the last-ball loss to England, is also trying to make up for the lost ground.
The Caribbean bowling, led by off-spinner Anisa Mohammad who completed her 100 T20 international wickets in the tournament, has served the side well and will be crucial in its contest against India.
